Republicans versus Democrats.

Admittedly I am only 23yrs, but I grew up in a house where discussion illegal immigration, billingual education, and abortion were normal at the age of 11yrs.  So politics and voting are old hat to me.  I did not get to vote for Bush the first time he ran, but I would have.  I voted for him the second time as well.  This has nothing to do with the fact that I am a Christian.  I do not care if someone is Republican or Democrat, I only care if they are sincere and are somewhat honest.  Of course I prefer someone to have views like my own, but in this day and age, that is almost impossible.  Especially in an age where Christians are almost cinsidered the scum of the earth in most people’s view, and yet most people still call us a Christian nation.

I did vote for McCain.  Not because he is Republican either.  Back in July last year when the they held the irst YouTube political debate, I began looking up the candidates.  At that time I became fairly certain either Hilary or Obama would get the party nomination for Democrats.  Although, I was almost certain it would be Obama so I dedicated quite a lot of time to studying him.  I watched his speech on politics and religion, and I found him to be an extremely charismatic person.  Oddly enough, part of the reason I had a hard time with Obama was because of his wife who came across as controlling and bitchy.  I disagreed on some of his stands on issues like abortion, as I am definitely pro-life.  However, in the end, I just did not feel like I could trust Obama because he never seemed to give straight answers and appeared to feed people what they wanted to hear in an attempt to win votes.  I actually wanted to like him and agree with him, but in the end, I couldn’t get past the feeling that I was listening to a used car salesman who was trying to sell me a broken down car that he was advertising as a brand new luxury vehicle.

Yes, Bush could have done a hell of a lot better, but I do not blame the ENTIRE Republican perty for the mistakes of a few people.  Democrats are not perfect either and yet it seems everywhere I look that people paint it that way.  Or at least that getting rid of Republicans will solve all of our problems.  The problem is not the party, but the weak people in the party.  Well, now I feel like I am talking about the Party in George Owell’s classic “1984″.  Not because it relates to this election, just because my mind made a silly connection.  However, speaking of “The Party”.  I feel most people just need to let go of perceptions about parties, and although they try to represent a particular sect of views, we should not vote on someone based on their party, but based on their character, honesty, and stance important issues and their ability to answer their stance on questions on those issues honestly.

No one can predict whether McCain would go and start random wars (I doubt he would), die, or put us into a worse national deficit.  Nor can anyone say that Obama will get us out of the war, cut taxes, and save us from another great depression.  We cannot know for certain until that person is in office unfortunately.  As long as we look at their character and experience I feel we get a better picture of how they will do in office than what they say on the issues themselves.  I have a hard time trusting a young man who may or may not pick the advisors he needs to make the right choices.  And although Palin is young, she wont pick the advisors and even if John McCain dies, he is smart enough and experienced enough to have left her with a very capable staff to help her.  It is more about the people behind you than the figurehead, the president.

God Bless ~Amy
